 Scouts - Patrol Discussion Areas |

For those of us, who during our regular night of programming and include a 30 minute "learning" discussion within our Patrols, here are a few ideas for what those discussions could focus on, starting from the first meetings to the last meetings. For some Scouts, this is all new stuff, particularily the "formality" of Scouting that we should be doing a little of in any case. Focusing on the "basics" of Scouts at the beginning, will bring youth up to speed quickly and allow them to participate with better confidence.

> Promise, Law, Motto, Slogan
> The Link Badge and other Badges Scouts may be eligible for or interested in
> Proper Use of a knife
> Proper Use of an axe or hatchet
> Stove operation & safety
> Making & Lighting Fires
> Lost in the Woods
> Lean-To's, Tents, and Setting up a Camp
> First Aid Kit / Survival Kit
> Camping Gadgets you can make (Hobo Stoves, Buddy Burners, Water can racks, Cooking Racks, Greese Disposal, Garbage, etc)
> Reading a Compass and taking Bearings
> Camp Fire Skits (How to make them the best ever)
> Packing a Hiking and Camping Bag
> Tying Knots
> Trail Signs
> Geocaching
> Hypothermia, Heat Exhaustion / Stoke, UV Exposure
> Boat Safety
