  What are Venturers? |

WELCOME TO VENTURERS
Venturers is for young men and women between the ages of 14 & 17. Typically they are in grades 9 to 12.
Venturers is not just for youth for have been in beavers, cubs and scouts. It is open to all youth who enjoy mountain biking, rock-climbing, canoeing, kayaking, extended hikes and lots of camping. If you enjoy the outdoors, being part of a small team and working together with other young people to accomplish thrilling challenges then you’ll love Venturers.
It builds on skills that scouts have already developed and puts them in context and gives the youth more control over their activities.
Venturers arrange themselves as a “Company” and elect their own president, vice-president and treasurer. They decide what they want to do, where they want to go and how active they want to be. The leaders are there as “Advisors” and their role is to mentor the youth, help provide the resources to put a fantastic programm together and ensure it fits within Scouts Canada’s mandate.
Most Venturer companies are quite small so it’s a great opportunity to work in small teams and plan camps, canoe adventures, white-water canoeing etc. A lot of the planning is done with other Venturer Companies in Ottawa so that everyone benefits from great ideas and from each others’ planning.
Venturers is also an opportunity to give back to the community. They will frequently attend the camps put together by the Stittsville beavers, cubs and scouts to help the younger youth. They learn about leadership and the others benefit from their experience.
Scouting gives every member a chance to be a leader. It might involve running an activity, organizing a camp, or participating with other young people across your province or Canada in a youth forum. What do you want to do? Maybe you'd like to be a police officer, firefighter, or paramedic. In Venturers, you can "try on" different exciting career options to see what's right for you.
In Stittsville, the Company is 15 youth and 3 advisers. If you want to find out more, come to one of our meetings or give one the advisors a call.
