LINKING ACTIVITIES

In the late winter months of the Beaver program (February/March), and the Spring (April/May), the Beaver colony shall promote the concept of linking with one or more Wolf Cub packs. Only the White Tail Beavers are eligible for this activity, as the program feature is designed for the oldest Beavers, and is a critical aspect of encouraging Beavers to move into the Cub program. A linking activity involves placing the White Tail Beaver into a Cub pack meeting on one or more occasions.

Linking activities are designed to introduce Beavers to the world of Cubs, earning badges and a greater range of mature program themes.

The Beaver leadership team must be aware that linking the Beaver colony to cubs may be an anxious time for a White tail Beaver, as they are moving from an elder position, and routine of a Beaver colony, and into a pack environment where they are in the youngest age group and experience.

The different ceremonies and actions of the Cub pack may appear daunting to the Beaver, however, the "Akela" (Cub Section leader), will be prepared and have the Cubs ready to welcome and introduce the Beavers to their world of fun and adventure.

It is the goal of the Beaver leadership team to expose the White Tail beavers, to more than one linking activity with the Cub packs. By doing so, friendships will start, and the familiarity with the Cub program will begin.

To encourage successful transition from Beavers to Cubs, the leadership team will gradually introduce the concept of the Cub pack to White tail Beavers using the Keeo and multiple Linking activities.

A fundamental change that Beavers will note, is the change of uniform, and concept of earning badges, rather than being awarded badges for activities they participate in. To promote the linking between Beavers and Cubs, Beavers are eligible to earn badges when they participate in linking activities. This helps the new Tenderpads earn badges prior to joining Cubs, and avoiding have a bare uniform when they join.
