Beaver Program Areas |
|
The Beaver program is designed to meet the Mission and Principles of Scouts Canada in that it places emphasis on activities which encourage children to:
- Develop a sense of belonging and sharing in small group activities
- Develop a sense of cooperation through non-competitive activities
- Appreciate nature
- Be healthy and have good feelings about themselves
- Express themselves in a confident manner
- Experience and express love and joy
- Find examples of God's for them and the world
The above examples are woven into the "Friends of the Forest" storyline, through which the child can interpret the meaning and sense of these values.
In Beavers, the Mission, Principles and Goals are achieved through a program of understanding, supportive fun. Activities are built around seven Program elements called "GAMSOCS". These are described as follows:
- G = Games (encourages fitness, fair play, cooperation and value of rules)
- A = play acting (promotes confidence and imagination)
- M = music (teaches rhythm and movement)
- S = Story telling (kindles imagination, and understanding of honesty, loyalty, caring)
- O = Outdoors (encourages adventure, new experiences , exploration, community service)
- C = Crafts (encourages creativity and a sense of accomplishment)
- S = Spirituality (provides time to introduce and reinforce values)
These elements are incorporated in six Activity Areas:
- Our World
- Creativity
- Fitness
- Our Environment
- Family and Friends
- Outdoors
