MAKING POTABLE WATER PROGRAM
1st STITTSVILLE SCOUTS
Welcome to the 1st Stittsville Scout Group "Making Potable Water Program" forum.
PURPOSE
The purpose of the “MAKING POTABLE WATER” program is teach Scout leaders and Scout youth necessary skills for making drinking water using a wide variety of techniques when on outdoor activities.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVE
The objective of this Potable Water program is to provide outdoor programming activities that teaches Scout leaders and Scout youth the necessary skills to make SAFE DRINKING WATER through a variety of different techniques.
This program has been developed by the 1st Stittsville Delta Troop as an extension of Voyageur Outdoor Skills requirement #14 "Demonstrate how to ensure safe drinking water."
PROGRAM GOAL
This goal of this program is to enhance outdoor skills knowledge with regard to making SAFE DRINKING WATER. This is particularly important knowledge that Scout Leaders should know. Once Scout leaders have this knowledge, they can then teach the youth. When youth have this knowledge, they can then teach other youth, thus providing excellent leadership and mentoring opportunities.
PROGRAM COMPONENTS
There are quite a few components that make up this program. Please be advised that the information that is provided here has been developed by the 1st Stittsville Delta Troop leaders and
1. Has been through field trials for two years
2. Potable water tools used in program have been chosen by the Stittsville Delta Troop leaders
3. Decision making process for making potable water has been chosen by the Scout leaders
4. All information contained in this program reflects the approach taken by 1st Stittsville Delta Troop.
TARGET AUDIENCE
The information in this program is applicable to Scout Leaders from all sections and Troop aged youth. Some sections of the program are applicable to Colony youth up to Venturer level.
