Pocket Pieces are a series of checklists that leaders can use for their program activiites. Each checklist is designed to fit into the front pocket of the leader shirt, hence the name "Pocket Pieces". There are there are several ways that you can fold the Canadian flag, depending on the type of ceremony that is being held. Scouts Canada provides basic guidance in the leader handbooks, but does not state a 'definitive' method for folding the Canadian Flag. After some research and discussion with Heritage Canada I have created a simple set of instructions in 'pocket piece' format, that our Troop uses for folding the Canadian flag at closing ceremonies. These instructions are based on the booklet that Heritage Canada sent to me. For unknown reasons, these instructions are not on their web site. This method that I have documented is straightforward and provides a nice formal ending to our Troop Closing. It also challenges the youth to perform this act well in front of their peers. Each pocket piece contains a specific set of information that is designed to achieve two objectives: 1. Provide a convenient, easy to use checklist of information the Scout leader can use without carrying around the leaders handbook. 2. Quick reference material the leader can pull out of their front pocket and use at a moments notice, or provide as a reference to help another leader. To use this pocket piece, download it and print it out. Fold it in two and use sticky tape to hold it together.
