Welcome to the annual Wave Pool Swim night. This a fun filled night where all the kids from the 1st Stittsville Scout Group descend on the Wave Pool for a night of fun and frolicking in the water with your leaders and fellow Scouts. It's always a good time! You can check out the stittsvillescouts.org website for more information.

Along with those good times go some rules to make sure that your children are safe. And, as some of you discovered last year, there have been new rules and regulations added to ensure the safety of all the swimmers. These rules include the swim-level bracelet policy, a "group" bracelet policy, and also required leader/parent to youth ratios. Both Scouts Canada and the City of Ottawa have strict policies on this.

Your leaders and City of Ottawa staff will be on hand to provide the kids with an overview of the rules. But please reinforce with your children that horseplay in the pool can lead to accidents. Please try to be at the pool between 6:15 and 6:30 so the children can be there to hear these rules. They are also posted at the pool.

The "skill level" bracelet policy is in place to help identify the youth's swimming ability. And Orange bracelet requires more parent/leader supervision than the Green bracelet. Here are the rules:

· Beavers: receive an orange bracelet. The orange bracelet requires an adult within arms reach at all times.

· Scouts: receive a green bracelet. The green requires adult supervision within visual range.

· Cubs: will receive an orange or green bracelet dependent on a swim test to ensure they can swim the length of the pool without assistance. The lifeguards will test for this. The pool also maintains a list of children that have previously passed the test. We will try to have this verified in advance.

A group identification policy has been put in place to help the lifeguards know who is part of our group. Every parent and child will receive one of these bracelets.

Cost: $5/person

Time: Wednesday, November 30th, 6:30pm to 8:00pm

Location: Kanata Wave Pool at 70 Aird Place, Kanata, ON INFO HERE

What to bring:

· Mandatory: Backpack containing a suitable bathing Suit and towel

· Optional:Swimming Goggles, pool shoes, padlock for locking up your valuables. You may want to consider pajamas so the kids can go straight to bed! Smile

The schedule:

6:15pm: arrive at the pool. Seek out the leader in charge for your section (or assigned leader/parent). Register and pay. There will be 3 separate lines for kids in the separate bracelet categories

6:30pm: The change rooms will be available. At this point, the kids can go into the pool area. The children being tested will need to go with a lifeguard to be tested (logistics TBD)

8:00pm: The swim ends. For those parents that are dropping off, please arrive promptly, and ensure that the leaders in charge are aware that you have taken your child home.

If you bring a youth/sibling who is not a registered member of Scouts Canada, then you must complete and sign the hold-harmless form AND fill out a Physical Fitness form. Some will be made available at registration.

Just a gentle reminder that there is always a certain level of chaos that occurs throughout the registration process. I have discussed with the Wave pool staff, and we will do our best to get the kids into the pool as quickly as possible, but at the end of the day, there are rules and regulations in place to keep your children safe. Please bare with us....

And don't forget to have fun! See you there!
