This activity was designed to expose the youth to the Voyageur Outdoor skills requirements for learning how to safely use scout equipment.
This is an activity that our Troop every two years at the start of the scout year. We do this because we want to impress upon the youth the importance of learning how to use equipment that they will need on scout level outdoor activities.
Though this outing covered essential outdoor skills, our Troop does not close off any of the Outdoor Skills requirements with this one activity as we want our scout youth to earn the requirements in a real world scenarios such as standing or mobile camps or on one day outdoor hiking actvities.
This activity uses the 1st Stittsville Scout Safety Permit Guidelines. These can be found at this location. Simply look for the program information titled "OUTDOOR SKILLS WORKSHOP" http://www.stittsvillescouts.org/scouttalk/viewforum.php?f=15
