2010 Accomplishments |
|
2010 was a great year for Stittsville Scouting!
Apart from all the section activities we did, there were some additional group events which our youth should be very proud of, and some awards handed out to members of the Leadership Team who have earned them. Congratuations to all and here's looking forward to another great year in 2011.
Leadership Team
- Awards presented by Area Commissioner - Medal of Good Service Award presented to Paul Walker.
- Order of Caribou Award Badge presented to Kevin Chapell, Bruce LeBlanc, Mike Honcoop, Brian Gunther, Mike Leeder, Tim Redpath, Scott Stanley, Paul Young-Davies
Our Youth
- Beaver/Cub Camp - All went well with 158 people with both sections together participating.
- Scouts fall camp - The Ope camp was a good one. Only snowed on Sunday. Alpha Troop had their 2nd Fall camp at Whispering Pines. Weather was great and the kids had a fantastic time.
- Rovent - About 415 youth were there. The King of Sweden stopped up on Sunday for a quick appearance.
- King of Sweden Badges - Kids participated at the King of Sweden event at the Art Gallery, holding flags as the Dignitaries entered. 17 out of the 21 youth were from Stittsville. World Scout Foundation are providing badges to those children that participated. Area Commissioner was impressed with the stamina of the younger children – standing for over 1.5 hours.
- Bird Hourse BBQ - Waste Mgmt asked youth to hang birdhouses at bird sanctuary. This worked really well with over 30 of beavers, cubs and scouts participating. They hung 100+ birdhouses.
- A-Channel Event - 20-25 people showed up. A survival challenge with Kurt and Bill was pulled off without a plan. Thanks to all that participated.
- Remembrance Day Parade - Groups of 1st Stittsville participated in the annual Remembrance Day parade, marching to the cenotaph and laying a wreath.
- Parade of Lights - A small group of Scouts from Alpha Troop participated in the parade of lights with the Lions club to help gather food items along the route for the Stittsville Food Bank.
- Popcorn Sales Update – total sales was over $23,000. Prizes were awarded to top sellers by Paul. Great job by all!
- Wave Pool – December 1 - Event went well. 152 children participated! Thank you to the parents and leaders who attended.
- Food Drive – Collection is underway with 4 groups having provided food so far. Plan will be to drop off to the Food Bank next week.
Group
- Scout Cards - Scout Cards were handed out for the spring registration. Fall ones will come later on. With these cards, youth are entitled to get 10% off at Scout Shop and discounts at Busktakah.
- 1st Stittsville Scouts is still the largest group in Canada with a 96% retention and around 273 participating youth. That's fantastic!
